PALOMARES, SPAIN 1966 - 2001
Site is now MORE radioactive tha after cleanup.
On January 17, 1966, a B52 bomber collided with KC-135 tanker aircraft off the southeast coast of Spain at 29,000 ft.
They exploded in a fireball over Palomares, Spain. Of the four hydrogen bombs onboard the B-52, two others scattered plutonium dust around the impact site when the conventional explosives on board went up.
UPDATE 2011: After 45 years, the U.S. Government is considering maybe possibly thinking about cleaning up the contaminated areas. In February, Foreign Minister Trinidad Jiménez, announced to Spanish Senate that clearing Palomares was "a priority." Expect progress this century, fer sure.

20,000 Rare Penquins are Goners as Oil Spill Surrounds
World Heritage Site in the South Atlantic
There was yet another explosion of clean, safe natural (it's organic!) gas in
Minneapolis.

Meanwhile, as Tokyo continues to rock, so does Little Rock, AR. Actually, the epicenter of the 4.7 quake in central Arkansas was 37 miles from the capital. It's part of an alarming earthquake swarm that has been plaquing the area since roughly the initiation of heavy-duty frackinization in 1009. Nothing to worry about (see photo). The nearby
Nuclear One power plant has been built to withstand anything. Or close to it.

RADIOACTIVE RODENTS ESCAPE HANFORD NUKE ZONE: Welcome to the future: A radioactive mouse has escaped from the grounds of Hanford, the decommisioned nuclear complex in southeastern Washington state. The radioactive mouse droppings have been found in the same area where the radioactive rabbit droppings were found earlier this month. The radioactive rabbit was killed and disposed of as radioactive waste. Officials believe the animals ate or drank cesium at a Hanford site.
In 2009 there were 33 cases of contaminated animal material found on the 586 square-mile nuclear reservation site. Reports are from the Associated Press and other mainstream sources.
Meanwhile (November 2010), Hanford cleanup workers discovered an area of soil so radioactive it exceeds lethal limits tenfold.

Penna Turns Extemist Anti-Fracking Activist Names Over to Drilling Companies The Pennsylvania Office of Homeland Security has been tracking anti-gas drilling groups and their meetings -- including public screenings of the film "Gasland," a documentary about the environmental hazards of methane gas drilling. The industry now calls this volatile and explosive gas "natural", which it undoubtedly is. Organic too.
Red Sea of Toxic Sludge
Jahweh won't be parting the 200 milion gallon red sea of toxic metallurgic sludge that poured into three Hungarian villages, killing eight people. As the first mess of toxic sludge reaches the Danube River, the owner of the plant says the sludge - which delivers chemical burns through clothing - is not classified as toxic waste. Not to worry: Magyar Aluminium ZRt carries $50,000 worth of insurance for just this sort of emergency.

EPA DECIDES TO REVEAL LOCATIONS OF 44 HAZARDOUS COAL SLUDGE SITES
The EPA has decided to reveal the locations of 44 hazardous coal sludge storage sites, toxic repository ponds such as the one that burst its 55 foot high dike in December of 2008 and spilled a billion gallons of toxic coal ash into the landscape and rivers around Harriman, TN. The agency had originally refused to disclose the locations because it might scare people into moving away from the danger…or complaining or something. The original mumbled explanation involved "security", which might be construed as meaning they were afraid Islamicists wer going to fly into Knoxville and ask the locals directions to the nearest toxic fly ash dump. No one would think anything of it in a regions where not even one person is named Mohammed. LilBambi reports Here.

Bayer Destroyed Evidence after CropScience (Pesticide) Plant Explosion Bhopal Redux

It's one thing to kill 20,000 Indians, like Union Carbide did in Bhopal, India on 3 December 1984. But killing Americans, while lying to first responders is a little too close to home. That's why the presence of methyl isocyanate gas at the Bayer pesticide plant in Institute, West Virginia pesticide plant explosion is way disconcerting indeed. The Kanawha Valley may have narrowly escaped a chemical plant catastrophe that could have surpassed the 1984 Bhopal disaster, according to a report released today by congressional investigators.

Orcas Dying, Not Killing
Seven Puget Sound killer whales are missing and feared dead in what could be the biggest decline among the sound's orcas in nearly a decade, say scientists who carefully track the endangered animals. The number of this unique subspecies hs declied to 83. Pollution and a decline in prey are believed to be the whales' biggest threats, although stress from whale-watching tour boats and underwater sonar tests by the Navy also have been concerns. In the late 1960s and early '70s, the population fell as dozens were captured for marine parks. The species was declared endangered in 2005.

EPA Chief Johnson Keeps Lying
The EPA is trumpeting the great news that it has set a new health standard for lead that will reduce the amount of the toxic metal in the nation's air by 90 percent. Stephen Johnson, the Bush Boy whom adminstrates the EPA the way his masters instruct him, was quoted as saying: "Our nation's air is cleaner today than just a generation ago, and last night I built upon this progress by signing the strongest air quality standards for lead in our nation's history." He even added a personal note: "Thanks to this stronger standard, EPA will protect my children from remaining sources of airborne lead."
The new standard announced on Thursday would require the 16,000 remaining sources of lead, including smelters, metal mines, and waste incinerators, to reduce their emissions.
What the professional liar failed to mention was that the EPA was under a federal court order to set a new standard by midnight Wednesday. This is only the latest example of outside groups having sue the agency to force them to perform the mission we as taxpayers pay them to do.
Is it meanspirited to speculate what types of jobs await Mr. Johnson when the last Bushie has left and the offices fumigated»

INSTANT HALL OF FAME: Japanese Earthquake, Tsunami and Nuclear Disaster March 2011

As the only nation to be A-bombed*, Japan has a unique perspective on nuclear power. Although most Americans associate
"Godzilla" with campy science fiction, there was a clear message embedded in the original 1954 film. Although the U.S. version was sanitized, the "radiation monster" was an intentional and apocalyptic allegory for Hiroshima and the U.S.- Soviet arms race. At the time, the two were engaged in a frenzy of blowing off bombs on the ground, in the air and beneath the sea. It was these explosions that awakened and mutated Godzilla, sending him off to crush Tokyo with his atomic breath. The possibility of a meltdown at a nuke built near a fault line by all means "points up" man's folly, no matter how ingenious their engineers.

Christian Boy Tom Coburn Blocks Aid To Haiti As cholera takes hold of Haiti, Senator Tom Coburn of Okydoky continues to block up over $1 billion dollars in U.S. Aid pledged for post-quake rebuilding. And so goes a decades long pattern in Haiti, a pattern defined by horrendous natural disasters, but exacerbated by human corruption and hypocricy. The net result is that Haiti is more unprepared with each natural disaster as the infrastruction continues to decline and the nation falls further into dispair.
