ILLEGAL JAPANESE WHALE MURDER
IN AUSTRALIAN SANCTUARY

Kyodo Senpaku Kaisha Ltd Continues Commercial Whaling By Pretending It's Research

Somewhat thwarted in their desire for whale sashimi by the international community, the Japanese continue commercial whaling under the pretense of "research".

According to Humane Society International estimates, Kyodo Senpaku Kaisha Ltd, has killed more than 850 minke whales within the Australian Whale Sanctuary since the sanctuary was proclaimed in July 2000 under the Commonwealth Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation (EPBC) Act. This year the company added fin whales to their annual hunt and next year will begin killing threatened humpback whales. Perhaps the "research" will reveal that harpoons cause health problems for humpback whales.

The most sickening aspect of this business is that demand for Japanese whale meet has declined over the decades. What is really going on is that the Japanese government is committed to preserve its $14 billion commercial fishing industry. Although slackening demand has pushed wholesale prices of whale meat down, it still sells for $3.70 and $70 per lb. to the creeps who eat it. Conidering the intelligence of whales, it would be an insult to them to describe this practice as cannibalism. Ironic that the nation that for so many centuries condsidered outsiders barbarians should indulge in such a barbaric practice.

There is some good news: The Federal Court of Australia has granted Humane Society International permission to proceed with a lawsuit against sneaky Kyodo Senpaku Kaisha, which is basically a proxy for the Japanese government. The conservation group now will ask the court for an injuction stopping the whale hunt.

It is often the case that environmental issues are closely tied to harsh economic realities. For example, that coal plant may be destroying the health of your community, but it provides power and jobs, so we need to take a balanced view. In the case of whale murder, however, we are dealing with a luxury that is totally unnecessary to anyone's existence except those savages who makes their living killing this near human species and selling their dead flesh. Let them find other jobs.
